Usually 5 flowers are used on a hitch horse and 7,9, or 11 on a halter horse. Traditionally the manes of mares are not decorated for halter classes but this is changing in some areas. It is always correct to leave mare's manes without braids for halter classes.

Taped wire stems sealed with acrylic spray for a smooth hard surface that resists soil, slides through the hair easily and protects fingers and animal from the end of the wire.
